Bismarck State College (BSC), an innovative community college in Bismarck, ND, offers an online certificate program in Water and Wastewater Technology. The Water and Wastewater Technology program is dedicated to the field of water and wastewater treatment.

BSC is home to the National Energy Center of Excellence (NECE), a national-recognized leader in energy education offers 12 online and on-campus programs. The college is closely aligned with industry. BAS in Energy Management

The Water and Wastewater Technology program is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level employment in water and wastewater treatment plants of all types; city and rural utilities, power plants, process plants, and other industrial facilities. Courses focus on the biological, chemical and mechanical knowledge and skills needed in all types of water treatment plants and emphasize the safety of communities, personnel and the environment. Students will also complete a job shadow experience. This experience will require students to observe and assist in the daily operations of a functional water or wastewater treatment facility. The program can be completed in two semesters over nine months and is endorsed by the North Dakota Rural Water Association. Courses have been approved as CEUs and TUs in select states and may also count towards entry-level exam requirements for operators.

Courses are offered in a block style format with new classes beginning every 3-16 weeks. Online classes are instructor-led and include interactive media, simulations, animations and discussions. Students who complete the Water and Wastewater Technology program are eligible to enter the only Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Energy Management program in the nation. The BAS program is offered entirely online. Program courses are taught by industry experienced instructors to help students capitalize on existing experience and enhance skills. The program is designed for individuals interested in supervisory or management positions in the energy industry and includes general education classes, management courses, and energy management courses.
