Surge protective devices (SPDs) – protect your incoming power distribution from lightning, your 4-20mA instrumentation signals, your PLC’s inputs and outputs, and your Ethernet and wireless communications from voltage transients. Remote signaling informs you via your SCADA system of system health.

Circuit breakers for control circuits – Whether you need to protect against over-current or short-circuit conditions, thermal only or thermomagnetic, or even remotely resettable electronic circuit breakers, Phoenix Contact offers options up to 277 V AC, 16 A, 1 to 3 poles. They are ideal for protecting power supplies, PLCs, sensors and actuators, VFDs, valves, etc.

Cyber security – Today’s industrial control systems (ICS) that run water and wastewater plants offer unprecedented power and flexibility. However, their connectedness to business systems and the Internet has left them vulnerable to malicious and unintentional cyber attack. Phoenix Contact offers industrially rated firewalls to protect your ICS in a manner consistent with ANSIAWWA G430, ANSI/ISA–99 (ISA-62443.01.01) and other relevant standards. Phoenix Contact’s Water Industry Cyber Security Task Force members are recognized experts in the industry and can point you towards more cyber-secure process and SCADA systems.

Terminal blocks – Phoenix Contact received a U.S. Patent in 1935 for the first rail-mounted modular terminal block, and we’ve continued innovating this critical component to this day. Intrinsic safety – From bar screen areas to anaerobic digesters, water/wastewater systems have many potentially hazardous locations where flammable gases may be present. Phoenix Contact offers a full line of intrinsically safe signal conditioning equipment in various form factors, including surge protective devices and even intrinsically safe I/O.

Signal conditioning – Signals from pH analyzers, flow meters and other process instruments need to arrive unchanged from their original raw values into your control system. Whether you use 4-20 mA, thermocouple, HART or any other common signal, Phoenix Contact offers dependable isolation, amplification or conversion to maintain the integrity of your process data.

Ethernet connectivity – Whether managed or unmanaged, wired, fiber optic, or wireless, Phoenix Contact offers industrially rugged, full-featured Ethernet switches, media converters, routers and other networking hardware to facilitate ICS and WAN connectivity throughout your plant and entire system. You can use the Phoenix Contact mGuard product line to set up Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). This will enable secure, encrypted communications throughout your system, or between the municipality and service providers.

Wireless – In some locations, it is not possible to make a wired connection, but that doesn’t mean you can’t achieve a reliable connection. Phoenix Contact offers WirelessHART (WiHART) and Bluetooth for in-plant networking. For long-range connectivity such as SCADA applications, our signal, serial and Trusted Wireless radios provide numerous options. We also have industrially rugged 802.11 (WiFi) radios with speeds up to 300 Mbps, ideal backhaul, video and other high-bandwidth applications.

Systems cabling - Quick, clear and error-free connections are easy with systems cabling. Using traditional terminal blocks to connect controllers to field devices can be extremely time-consuming. System cabling from Phoenix Contact replaces the multiple connections between the controller and terminal blocks with a completely pluggable system that cuts installation time and eliminates wiring errors. System cabling is 15 times faster than traditional “point-to-point” wiring. It also eliminates wiring errors during installation and testing. Phoenix Contact’s system cabling solutions are available with multiple field wire termination methods: screw, spring-cage and push-in connection technology.
